Master saxophone legend Benny Golson played an integral role in the transition from bebop to hard bop through his short but vital tenure with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and with his own influential Jazztet, co-led by trumpeter Art Farmer. Golson recorded over 30 albums and wrote well over 300 compositions. Few jazz musicians can claim as many bona fide standards to their credit: compositions like “Whisper Not,” “Stablemates,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Along Came Betty,” and “Killer Joe.” These jazz standards have found their way into countless recordings internationally over the years and are still being tracked today. For more than 60 years, Golson enjoyed an illustrious musical career in which he composed and arranged music for Count Basie, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Shirley Horn, Quincy Jones, Carmen McRae, Oscar Peterson, Mel Torme, George Shearing and many others.
