He was born, so to speak, with a silver flute in his mouth. Paulo Jobim’s father, Antonio Carlos Jobim, was also known as the father of Bossa Nova, introducing the subtle rhythms and melancholy tone of Brazilian music to the world and collaborating with the likes of Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck and Astrid Gilberto. Unafraid to walk in his father’s footsteps, Paulo Jobim made his own name as a composer, arranger and instrumentalist. He would go on to enlist his own son, pianist Daniel Jobim, in the project of collecting, publishing, recording and celebrating the works of Antonio Carlos. Respected and loved by musicians around the world, Paulo left us in November of 2022. But his family name will be celebrated in song forever.
